Did you know that March is Adopt a Guinea Pig Month?
In 2002, the ASPCA declared the month of March “National Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month.” This was developed because of the overwhelming number of guinea pigs entering shelters. A guinea pig may be the perfect pet for you if you are not quite ready for the commitment of a dog or a cat.
To help bring about awareness, carefresh, the only brand of small animal bedding made from 100-percent biodegradable, compostable and sustainable materials, is celebrating Adopt a Guinea Pig Month with the launch of its carefresh Gives Back donation program. carefresh will provide several rescues in the U.S. and Canada with free small animal bedding for adoptable guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, chinchillas and more throughout 2019.
To kick off the program, carefresh selected All Paws Rescue in Edmond, Oklahoma, as its first Rescue of the Month. All Paws Rescue is a foster-based animal welfare organization that was founded in 2016. It is committed to improving the lives of homeless companion animals by finding them loving families, and by spreading awareness and sharing resources to limit pet overpopulation. Its volunteers empower the rescue’s success; pledging to provide support and striving to positively impact them and the animals in their care.
All Paws Rescue also depends on foster homes to help welcome animals into the program. It is always on the lookout for foster homes that will help care for dogs and cats, as well as guinea pigs, ferrets and other small animals. Fostering generally consists of providing care and attention to animals. In addition to providing care, being a foster with the rescue means providing transportation to veterinary appointments and adoption events, as well as taking photos and getting to know your foster animal so All Paws Rescue can tell potential adopters about them.
All Paws Rescue endeavors to strengthen the compassion of its community, and encourage partnerships with local organizations and individuals to provide greater opportunities to the animals of Oklahoma.
For Adopt a Guinea Pig Month, carefresh donated coupons for 10 bags of free carefresh bedding to use with their adoptable small animals. In addition to the donation, all adopters in 2019 will receive a coupon for $5 off their first bag of bedding and the rescue will be featured on the carefresh Facebook and Instagram pages throughout March.
“We’re delighted by the donation from our friends at carefresh. Quality bedding is an important care standard for our organization, so the free bags will help ease the expense of housing our small critter friends,” said Jessica Schwab, small critter coordinator at All Paws Rescue. “In addition, we’re excited to be able to share coupons with our adopters so they can keep their pets on a safe and comfortable product.”
