The Humane Society of Missouri is dedicated to rescuing animals who are abused, neglected or abandoned. They create lasting relationships between people and animals through adoption, shelter pet behavior programs and by making available world-class veterinary care. These are still looking for their forever homes this year.
Carver (ID#A658680) Carver is an athletic 15-year-old gelding who has shown to be a very forward ride. We believe that previously he was trained and raced as a barrel horse. He is very simple to bridle and easy to tack and groom. He has been ridden at the walk, trot and canter in the arena and has both leads. He is quick to respond to leg and seat, and because of this we recommend at least an advanced intermediate rider. Carver is recovering from a severe case of neglect and although he has finally reached a healthy weight, he will need time and exercise to improve his topline and muscle tone. We believe his future will be bright in virtually any discipline. To adopt, apply in person at HSMO’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union, MO. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Autumn (ID#A663248) Autumn is a 10-month-old Dachshund mix with a playful personality. Autumn’s tail is always wagging and she’s been described as the happiest dog ever! Autumn would love a feline-free home – she’s not a fan of cats. Autumn would love a family to play with, lots of walks to explore her new neighborhood, and a forever home for the rest of her days. To adopt: Apply in person at HSMO’s Macklind Ave Headquarters in St. Louis City. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Bruno (ID#A665731) Adorable Yorkshire Terrier Bruno just wants a family who will spoil him through his golden years. Bruno had severe dental disease when he arrived at HSMO. His teeth were so diseased that few of them could be saved during his recent dental surgery. Therefore, Bruno will need soft or canned food for the rest of his life. Now, Bruno is happy and healthy, and ready to find his own forever home! Bruno is 11 years young and we think he’s a very special little guy – he’s cute and quiet and he would love to be your next lap dog! To adopt, apply in person at HSMO’s Best Buddy Pet Center in Maryland Heights. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Minnie Mouse (ID#A665471) Whoever said black cats are bad luck has never met Minnie Mouse! You’ll be mesmerized by Minnie’s striking green eyes paired with her sleek black coat. She prefers to use the litterbox, and she loves for her owner to wave around a wand toy with feathers or other fun things to pounce and jump for. Unlike her namesake, however, Minnie Mouse prefers not to be around small children. If you’re looking for a quiet companion with a fun and playful side, come meet Minnie! To adopt, apply in person at HSMO’s Best Buddy Pet Center in Maryland Heights. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Seth (ID#A664075) Seth may look like a lab, but really he’s just a bundle of fun in a beagle-sized package! Seth is five years old and just 30 pounds – the perfect age and size to take on family adventures! Seth is a happy guy who would love a human to throw the ball, so he can go get it! He already knows how to sit and lay down on command, so teaching him more fun tricks should be a breeze. You’ll have tons of fun with Seth! To adopt: Apply in person at HSMO’s Macklind Ave Headquarters in St. Louis City. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Lucky (ID#A666482) You know you want to get Lucky! Lucky is a very loving guy with a playful puppy personality. Lucky could really use some structure in his life – with his boundless energy, he’d love a person of his own to help him become the perfect pet he’s meant to be. Lucky would be a great running partner, and obedience classes would help him be a very good boy while building a bond and trust with his new owner. Lucky has a great doggie smile that we just love!! To adopt, apply in person at HSMO’s HSMO’s Macklind Ave Headquarters in St. Louis City. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Boomer (ID#A666377) Boomer was found – sick and wandering the streets along – and brought to HSMO by a good Samaritan. Since then, he’s been receiving medication and we’re happy to report he’s healthy and ready to head forever home! Boomer is a big, goofy guy who would love an active family to take him on walks to teach him to play fetch. We’re not sure about his past, but with a family to love him, his future sure is bright! To adopt: Apply in person at HSMO’s Macklind Ave Headquarters in St. Louis City. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Shepherd (ID#A512178) How smart is Shepherd? He comes when you call. Knows his name. Sits on command. Takes treats gently from your hand. He even prefers to go potty outside. What more could you ask of a dog? At seven years of age, Shepherd is full grown at 50 pounds. His tuxedo-style black coat with white markings and great big smile make him make him quite the handsome man. Shepherd will love and adore you, but other dogs? Not so much. His loyalty mostly extends to his family and he thinks of himself as your protector. Therefore, he would do well with an experienced owner with no other dogs. He would love an active family who will include them in their activities. He will encourage you to exercise by taking him for long walks or jogs, or even lots of toys and playtime in a big back yard. To adopt: Apply in person at HSMO’s Macklind Ave Headquarters in St. Louis City. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Bear (ID#A630029) Bear is one fancy pigeon! She would like to be adopted with her best friend Monty, who is equally as fabulous! Bear and Monty have lived indoors, but they could also be introduced to a secure outdoor aviary. Bear is used to her human companions, but it might take her a while to get used to new friends. With positive reinforcement, she could become hand-tame, too. Whether you’re an experienced pigeon owner, or if you’re diving in for your first time, Bear (and Monty!) would love to become part of your flock. To adopt, apply in person at HSMO’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union, MO. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Luck (ID#A663760) Luck was rescued with more than 80 other cats from a horrible situation late last fall. It’s taken him a while to recover from the neglect he suffered – when he arrived at HSMO, he was underweight and covered in fleas. Since his rescue, Luck has gained nearly two pounds (that’s a lot when you only weigh 8 pounds!) and he’s finally healthy enough to find a forever home of his own. Because Luck came from a rescue situation, he’d love a patient family who will allow him to adjust to his new surroundings on his own time. Luck is an affectionate cat who will surely make a wonderful pet! To adopt: Apply in person at HSMO’s Macklind Ave Headquarters in St. Louis City. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org George (ID#A666429) George is a 1 year old Texel-type guinea pig. He is a social guy, and he’s used to being gently handled and picked up. George can be adopted with his buddy Tommy, also a Texel guinea pig, or he could be adopted into a home on his own. He would love a home where he can enjoy meals of timothy hay and fresh veggies in addition to his guinea pig feed. George will require an owner who can take special care of his fabulous fur – this breed of guinea pig has fur that is prone to matting, and he should be brushed regularly. To adopt: Apply in person at HSMO’s Macklind Ave Headquarters in St. Louis City. Hours and directions at www.hsmo.org Dawson (ID#A665816) Dawson came to HSMO from our partner shelter in Louisiana, so he could find a home in St. Louis! He’s a two year old pit bull mix with a lovely white coat and that quintessential brown patch over one eye. Dawson can be a shy guy around people he doesn’t know. But once he knows you, he’s in love! He already knows how to “sit” and “shake” and we think that with positive training, the skills he can learn are endless! We can’t wait to see him bond with his new person!
